Track: Sustainability/ Environmental Stewardship
Format: General Presentation
Organization: IFMA

Session Description: The facility management industry is the foremost contributor to a productive and sustainable built environment through excellent and innovative management of facility services. When practiced effectively and strategically, FM can be a major efficiency driver supporting business requirements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and achieving corporate social responsibility and environmental stewardship goals. Doing so, however, requires skilled and knowledgeable FM professionals to influence decisions and implement sustainability strategies to yield cost savings, lower environmental impacts and comfortable and productive workplaces.

IFMA's role in educating its membership about sustainable facility management practices is rapidly evolving, and FM core competencies related to sustainable practices have likewise expanded. The association is dedicated to meeting the challenge of supporting its members with the information, motivation, tools and resources to sustainably manage their capital facility assets.

This session will outline IFMA's activities related to sustainability and facility management by reviewing practical tools, educational resources, best practices and sustainability forums available within IFMA. Included in this session will be the SFP credential, an overview on programs involving numerous activities associated with tracking and reducing energy and greenhouse gases, reducing water consumption and improving the workplace through sustainable practices.
