The project began with an Asset Manager and a Data Analyst driven to produce a database that would join and leverage all existing asset databases. Database Synergy for Facility Assets, the title alone suggests that by grouping facility asset databases into one asset database, that the one database would outperform even the best of its members, and that has proven to be the case. The one asset database is affectionately called the Data Mart because, as with Walmart a family can go to one location and find all their household needs, so it is with the Data Mart when it come to finding information on an airport asset.
Utilizing a homegrown GIS nomenclature that is representative of the airport and flexible allowed for the joining of each existing asset database. This joining of databases allows one to view and analyze an asset’s data in one location at the click of a button. The data may include replacement and renewal costs, utility consumption and costs, maintenance labor and material costs, lease revenue and associated project costs for an asset. With this data at your fingertips, one can now easily calculate Total Cost Ownership (TCO) for an asset, a new but conscientious approach of looking at assets.
