3.05 Project Delivery Methods of the Future

Thursday, November 1, 2012
2:30 PM-3:30 PM
Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center
Track: Project Management
Format: General Presentation
Organization: IFMA
Knowledge Level: 200 level
Session Description: Why is construction the only major industry that has lost productivity in the last 30 years?  Cultural, technological and supply chain barriers have created inefficiency and waste in the construction industry that impact a facility manager’s bottom line; however, these barriers are in the process of being broken down by worldwide changes in the economic and environmental landscapes and the application of collaboration and transparency in project delivery methods.  Cloud computing and the associated integration of multiple facility-centric knowledge domains—creating a "Facebook for the Built Environment"—will create greater efficiencies as we enter an era of tighter budgets, reduced capital construction, and a focus on consolidating and adapting existing buildings for more efficient use. Glimpse the future of how construction will be delivered to you and how it will help you better manage the life cycle of your building infrastructure.
Learning Objectives:
  • Understand why construction is the only major industry that has lost productivity in the last three decades.
  • Identify new technologies and processes that can increase efficiency in construction and facility management.
  • Review the role of owners, contractors, AEs, building users and other stakeholders in effecting change.
  • Learn how to leverage standardized taxonomies to drive the integration of FM knowledge domains.
  •     Conference Proceedings
